Court Jails 20-Year-Old to 3 Years Imprisonment for Stealing Pumping Machines
The Federal High Court, Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced 20-year-old Toheeb Azeez to three years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing six water pumping machines.
This was contained in a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday by the Head, Public Relations Unit and Protocol of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State, Mr. Wale Folarin.
Azeez, who was arrested on November 16, 2015, by the NSCDC, Osun State Command, pleaded guilty to the two counts of unlawful destruction of property and stealing preferred against him.
He, however, begged Justice Babs Kuewumi, to temper justice with mercy during the speedy trial.
According to the charge sheet, the “20-year-old Azeez did commit felony to wit: unlawfully destroying and removing of six pumping machines, property of the Federal Housing Authority, at the Federal Housing Estate, Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (3) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, CAP M17, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He was also accused of “stealing six pumping machines valued at N102,000, property of the Federal Housing Authority, at the Federal Housing Estate, Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 (1) of the Criminal Code CAP C38, Vol., 4 Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
The judge sentenced him to two years imprisonment with hard labour on the first count and one year imprisonment with hard labour on the second count.
He said the sentence would run concurrently, meaning that the convict would spend two years in prison.
