Social Media Bill: Saraki Denies Attempts To Gag Citizens, Says Senate will Expunge any Obnoxious Bill Against Public Interest

On Tuesday, the “No To Social Media Bill”, a coalition of concerned Nigerians, staged a peaceful protest against an attempt to jail citizens accused of making “false” statements about public officials, which also includes the imposition of major fines against them.

Senate President Bukola Saraki has denied knowing about any social media gag bill, saying:
There is nothing like social media bill in the Senate. What Senate has is Frivolous Petition bill, and if any part of the bill is found obnoxious or against public Interest, it will be expunged during clause by clause consideration of the bill.
