Three employees, who allegedly stole one million litres of petrol and other items valued at N174 million from Lister Oil Limited Tank Farm, on Tuesday appeared before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, Azeez Adenekan, 32, Adeniyi Yusuf, 40; and Michael James, 30, all residents of Apapa area of Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, said that the accused committed the offences between February 2015 and January 2016 at No. 21, Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos.
Elibeh said that the accused conspired and stole one million litres of fuel, health and safety fire-fighting equipment, and other tools valued at N174,425,000 property of Lister Oil Limited Tank Farm.
''By the time the company finally realised that the accused were stealing its properties, the accused had stolen fuel and other items valued at N174,425,000," he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy, if convicted.
Chief Magistrate Titus Abolarinwa granted each of the accused N100,000 bail with three sureties each in like sum.
Abolarinwa adjourned the case till Feb. 29 for mention.
