A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Friday dissolved a 14-year-old marriage between Abosede and her husband Kayode Ifatayo, citing infidelity, irresponsibility and neglect of children.
The President of the court, Mr Henric Agbaje, in his judgment, held that allowing the couple to continue to consider each other as spouse would amount to a waste of time.
Agbaje said that both of them had in fact stopped living together.
``In the interest of peaceful coexistence, the court has terminated the husband and wife relationship between Abosede and Ifatayo henceforth,’’ he said.
He awarded custody of the two children to Abosede and ordered Ifatayo to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N3,000 for each of the two children.
The court also said that the husband would be responsible for their other welfare.
Abosede had told the court that her husband over the time neglected his fatherly role to the children as well as prevented her from engaging in any meaningful endeavour.
``My lord, I left his home in the first place due to the gross neglect Ifatayo exposed my three children and I to.
``Some weeks ago, he called me that a group of men were taking their turn raping our first child who is a 13-year-old girl and that is why I want to call it all off formally with him.
``He is fond of accusing me wrongly of what I never did,” Abosede said.
Ifatayo denied the allegations, and alleged that ``Abosede is a confirmed prostitute.
``I have caught her red-handed and my father equally did with her concubine,” Ifatayo told the court.
