President Muhammadu Buhari said Thursday in Washington DC that he will critically review the 2016 Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly before assenting to it.

Speaking at a meeting with the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, President Buhari said that in view of the controversial alteration and padding of the budget proposals, he needed to review the appropriation bill to be certain that its contents tallied with the authentic budget proposal presented to the National Assembly.

"Some bureaucrats removed what we put in the proposal and replaced it with what they wanted. I have to look at the bill that has been passed by the National Assembly, ministry by ministry, to be sure that what has been brought back for me to sign is in line with our original submission," the President said.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed says the government is aware that Nigerians are now doubting its change agenda, but he wants to assured them that the Buhari administration is “working around the clock to provide  relief for the citizenry.”

“As a government that was propelled into office by the power of the people, we cannot but feel the pains of our compatriots, and we deeply empathise with them,” he said in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Segun Adeyemi, his special adviser.

China and Nigeria have recorded a total bilateral trade volume of 101 billion dollars from 2004 to 2015.

Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr Zhao Linxiang said this at the 2016 China-Nigeria Trade and Economic Forum in Abuja on Thursday.

Linxiang said that both countries had experienced steady increase in their bilateral relations.

``According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs of China, total bilateral trade volume between China and Nigeria, from the year 2004 to 2015, recorded at 101 billion dollars.

The detained  leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, has urged the British Government  to intervene in his case by asking President Muhammadu Buhari to release him from prison.

Kanu who is facing treason charge alongside  two other pro-Biafra agitators, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, approached the British government through his lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor. 

Kanu, in a letter dated March 24 and addressed to the British High Commissioner in Abuja, described himself as a victim of travesty of justice and gross human rights violation.

He insisted that the President Buhari-led administration  has violently abused his fundamental human rights through his prolonged detention in prison custody.

Police Arrest Man for Stealing Seven-Month-Old Baby in Lagos State

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected child kidnapper, Happiness Umah, for allegedly stealing a seven-month-old child, Favour, in the Ijora area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Umah was escaping with the child when he was intercepted by officials of the Rapid Response Squad, who queried him on where he got the child.
He was alleged to have initially lied that he was her father, before saying he picked her from a bush where she was crying.
The police were said to have transferred the matter to the Gender Office, Lagos State Police Command.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has paraded a 28-year old man, Edet Asuquo, for allegedly murdering a pregnant woman and using her and the unborn child for rituals.

Edet Asuquo,  a native of Ikot Otu in Itu Local Government area of the state, was said to have connived with four others to remove the foetus from the woman’s womb at night.

The deceased was a native of Cross River State and was said to be a customer to Asuquo who deals in oysters.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cordelia Nwawe, “Asuquo, having sold the first part of his seafood to the pregnant woman, lured her to his home claiming that he had abundance of oysters at a cheaper rate.

Army Confirms Death of Abducted Officer, Col. Samaila Inusa in Kaduna

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of its officer, Col. Samaila Inusa, who was abducted by unknown gunmen in Kaduna at the weekend.

A statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said Inusa’s body was found on Tuesday evening around Ajyaita village in Kaduna.

Usman stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the senior officer might have been killed on the same day he was abducted, as the body was found already decomposing.

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja for Washington DC tomorrow, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 to join President Barack Obama and about 60 other world leaders and heads of international organisations at the 4th Nuclear Security Summit which opens there on Thursday.

At plenary sessions of the summit which is dedicated to reinforcing international commitment to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, President Buhari will insist that while Nigeria will continue to sustain that commitment,  world powers must respect the right of other countries to the peaceful use of nuclear energy for development purposes.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Ibe Kachikwu, said on Tuesday in Abuja that he would not resign as he still had a lot of work to do.

Middle-aged adults who’ve smoked a lot of pot for a long time may find themselves with lower paying, less skilled and less prestigious jobs, a new study finds.

These people may also suffer more money problems and have more difficulties with both work and personal relationships than their non-marijuana-smoking peers, WebMD quoted the research as saying.

Some specific problems longtime heavy pot users experience include antisocial behaviors at work, such as stealing money or lying to get a job, and intimate partner violence, the study authors said.

Gideon Yobo, 32, and his wife Blessing, 23, are now safely back at their home in Redbrook Way, Heaton, with their son Caleb, who was born at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) earlier this month.

Doctors had warned against Mrs Yobo falling pregnant due to her being diagnosed with lupus, an incurable illness affecting the immune system, and being affected by kidney problems.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reassured Nigerians of its commitment to end the persistent fuel scarcity in the country.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Garba Deen Muhammed , Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, on Monday in Abuja.

"We wish to re-assure Nigerians that we are on top of the petroleum products supply and distribution situation and we remain committed to eliminating this endemic issue once and for all within the next few days.

"We genuinely empathize with the attendant sufferings and wish to reassure that we are focused and committed to bring an end to this situation within the next few days.

Abducted Colonel: Army Offers N1 Million Reward for Useful Information

The Nigerian Army authority has raised reward for anyone with useful information that could lead to the rescue of its abducted officer, Colonel Samaila Inusa from initial N500,000 to One Million Naira.

The Army authority said it will give adequate protection to anyone provide the required information, just as he assured that the information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

Colonel Inusa was whisked away in his Mercedes-Benz car by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers around Kamazo, along Kaduna Refinery Road, in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

Queen's College Visitation Panel: PTA Wants Parent of Allegedly Molested Student to Show Up

The Queen's College Parent/Teacher Association says it is expecting a Visitation Panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Education to investigate the molestation claim by a parent on Wednesday, March 30.

Mrs Beatrice Akhetuame, Chairperson of the association, disclosed this at a news conference on Monday in Lagos. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the panel is on a fact finding mission over an alleged case of molestation by the parent of a daughter at the institution.

NAN further reports that the claim that a male teacher of the institution had sexually harassed a JSS-2 student had gone virile on the social media, as well as other conventional media, but had since been refuted by key stakeholders of the institution.

Supermodel Janice Dickinson Has Been Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Supermodel Janice Dickinson, who is currently fighting a legal battle against Bill Cosby over comments made regarding an alleged sexual assault, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Dickinson discovered what she described as a pea-sized lump in her breast at a routine doctor’s appointment on 12 March. Following a biopsy and mammogram, she was told that she had a non-invasive ductal carcinoma – a common form of breast cancer which usually responds well to treatment. She will undergo surgery to remove the lump, as well as radiotherapy.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of conducting himself in a manner that threatens national security.
It said the governor’s recent utterances and actions suggested acts of sabotage targeted at rendering national institutions ineffective to perform their statutory roles for effective government.
The state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said in a statement on Monday that Fayose’s unguided statements had exposed him as a man fighting a lone battle against the Federal Government.
He alleged that Fayose was nursing selfish motives to put millions of Nigerians in jeopardy of instability in an already tottering economy.

Suspected Bomber Who Claimed to be One of the Missing Chibok Girls Receieves Treatment in Cameroon

Cameroonian health and security officials on Monday started the treatment of an arrested suicide bomber who claimed to be one of the 219 missing Chibok Girls.

The girl was found to be heavily drugged and bore several injuries on her body. The girl’s health condition had delayed her movement to the far north regional capital of Cameroon, Maroua, as earlier planned.

Pictures of the arrested suspected bomber obtained by Nigerian officials indicated that the girl was likely a minor, between ages nine to 12 years.

Her accomplice was about 30 years or more, and both spoke only in Kanuri language.

NDLEA Discovers Letter Laden with 480 Grammes of Heroin in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said it had intercepted a letter laden with heroin in Lagos.
This is contained in a statement signed in Lagos by the agency's spokesman, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju.

According to the statement, the letter, which was sent from Bengalore, India, via Express Mail Service (EMS), was addressed to one Mr Yunusa Amusan, 33, in Mushin, Lagos.

``Upon interception by the NDLEA, about 480 grammes of powdery substance that tested positive for heroin, was found inside the letter.

``The thin parcels of heroin were carefully hidden in the letter in a manner that makes it difficult to detect.

Man Rapes 14-Year-Old, Brutalises Victim’s Father

A man, identified as Chinego Wasiu, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, Favour (pseudonym) in the Boundary, Ajegunle area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Wasiu, who was nabbed by the Ajegunle Police Division after the rape, also allegedly led a gang of thugs to Favour’s house to beat up the father.
Wasiu was said to have threatened to inflict injuries on the victim’s family if they made a noise about the rape. Our correspondent gathered that around 9.30pm last Monday, Favour was sent on an errand to buy noodles and a candle from a shop.
It was learnt that Wasiu had accosted the teenager and raped her, warning her not to disclose the incident to anyone.
